Johnny Warren Community Challenge Match

Sydney FC have confirmed the first of their pre-season fixtures with the Sky Blues to take on Earlwood Wanderers in the Johnny Warren Community Challenge.

It will be the second version of the Challenge at Leichhardt Oval and will take place on Wednesday 20 July (kick off 7:30pm) following a successful first instalment in July 2015.

Sydney FC emerged emphatic 7-0 victors on that night with current Sky Blues Shane Smeltz and Aaron Calver on the scoresheet, along with Sydney FC’s NPL top scorer this season Charles Lokolingoy.

The important community event will support the Johnny Warren Football Foundation ( and will provide a first opportunity for fans to see new signings Michael Zullo and Alex Wilkinson in action.

“It’s always good to get an early pre-season game under our belts and this match is a perfect opportunity to assess the squad and get minutes into the boys’ legs,” said Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold.

“Pre-season is meant to be tough and I want to see the players tested ahead of our exciting FFA Cup game in Wollongong.

“It will also be a good first chance to see how our new additions interact with our squad in a match scenario, as well as introducing some of our younger players to the first team.”

Earlwood Wanderers FC Secretary, Vicki Belton-Crowe said: “The match brings the football family closer combining the Hyundai A-League and community level football, with a number of younger rising footballers having an opportunity to play against their A-League heroes.”
Entry to the match is $5 for adults with children under the age of 16 admitted free of charge. There will also be a ‘Ticket and Beanie’ offer (prices below) that helps to support the Johnny Warren Football Foundation.

Save Our Surfaces

Football NSW have produced a flyer which includes some hints on how coaches can help to maintain the quality of our playing fields. The flyer can be downloaded here:

Training Fields

Beaman Park 1 & 2 Earlwood Oval Hughes Park

Look Out!!!

Parents!! please note as the season progresses we will progressively have earlier twilight times at Earlwood Oval, Hughes Park and Beaman Park during training. With less light, visibility is greatly reduced, and the carpark is full of children who may not always behave safely and predictably. Please slow down to accommodate these safety concerns, and watch out, kids about! Being on-time for training (or leaving quickly afterwards) is not important enough to justify risking our childrens' lives.
